Hot Socks

I never wanted to live where I needed to wear socks.

I am spoiled.

I enjoy the blessings of sunshine every day, going outside barefoot in T-shirt - or not, and temp not being an issue at all; growing mangoes, limes, lemons, oranges, palm trees. My whole world is turned upside down.

While driving to and fro on the Florida Turnpike, I have noticed that the 'green' disappears and dead leaves and trees and plants abound, just around the Ft. Drum/Melbourne area. Anything further north is just not the tropics. As I say, I am spoiled.

We know this chill is extraordinary for all of Florida. Freezing weather for 2 weeks now has stressed the fibre of every tropical plant in existance. My orange and peach and alamanda are each one covered with felt, towels and plastic. they are all suffering. Telltale signs of leaves dropping. Brown frozen and thawed leaves puddled around the bottoms... all speak to the saddness of 'hard freeze'.

We're feeding the little birdies. I think I have the fatest Cardinals in Florida. And fattest Squirrels. And fattest sparrows. We love to see them flying in and out of the feeders. Signs of life beyond fireplaces and mufflers.

Guantanamo was incredible. The Bay was at least 84 degrees year round; going snorkeling, diving at the drop of a hat was never in question.

We've got a pool we've been able to enjoy for about 3 weeks since June, so we installed solar hot water. This past week the water temp in the pool was 48, at best. This is not good return! This house needs to be in the tropics somewhere where there is no weather.

Weather? What's weather?

This is weather: snow on the pool screen, snow on the patio cushions, snow assaulting all my plants and grass we worked so hard to put down before the winter.

Snow is not my friend.

I watched it gather on the roof and pool screen. I did pick up a handful from this cushion and bring it into the hottub and threw it at Ron. :-D That was fun.

HAPPY 2010!

What a year, eh! who'd a thunk we'd have made it this far!! I had left over lobster and alligator for brunch! hahaha! The only thing missing > I forgot to get strawberries. That is a staple for New Year's Day! We used to pick them at the Delray Farms when the kids were little.

Hope you're taking it easy today...The day here is crazy! We woke up this morning to 60 deg. and vigorously pouring rain. Right now it is trying desperately to clear up and it is 42 deg! This is amazing! and that is how the weather's been this whole week... warm to freezing, then warmer to chilly-er! lol This is nuts!

Brought in the Tomato plants, the orchids, the cyclamen. Later today we'll wrap the peachtree and the palms. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I miss South Florida!

Here's the best pic I have of Mr. Honey!!

He's happier these days. The shot took away some of his shoulder pain. Next, hoping he'll get the tendon fixed. He needs to be happy and 100%! After all, gotta enjoy this here retirement!!
